Abamectin is a kind of hexadecyclolactone compound with insecticidal, acaricidal and nematicidal activities, which was first developed by tsuji omura of kitasato university in Japan and Merck company in the United States. It is produced by fermentation of Streptomyces avermitilis.Natural avermectin contains 8 components, including 4 main components, namely A1a, A2a, B1a and B2a, and the total content is 80%.The corresponding four homologues with smaller proportion are A1b, A2b, B1b and B2b, and their total content is less than 20%.Currently, abamectin is the main insecticidal component of the commercial Avermectin pesticide (Avermectin B1a+B1b, with B1a not less than 90% and B1b not more than 5%), which is calibrated by the content of B1a.Since abamectin entered China's pesticide market in 1991, abamectin has played an important role in China's pest control system.At present, abamectin is produced by more than 10 enterprises in China. Currently, abamectin series of commercial pesticides include abamectin, ivermectin and methylamine abamectin benzoate.In China, 7051 strain was isolated and screened from the soil of jiayang city, guangdong province, developed by Shanghai pesticide research institute in the late 1980s. After identification, it was proved that the strain was similar to s. vermitilis ma-8460 and had the same chemical structure with avermectin.In 1993, the new technology development corporation of Beijing agricultural university initiated a research project to develop the drug.Abamectin is a new type of antibiotic with novel structure and dual use in agriculture and livestock.With the improvement of people's living standard and the call for green food, biological pesticides are favored in the current pesticide market, and the authority predicts that the 21st century will be the century of biological pesticides.It is reported that the sales of European bio-pesticide will increase from 100 million us dollars in 1997 to 169 million us dollars in 2004.Abamectin is the most popular and competitive new product in the current biological pesticide market.
